Railroad Tie Plate Inserter

This railroad tie plate inserter maintains railway tracks as a part of the railway maintenance gang. Its functions include raising the rails to remove and insert tie plates, which secure the rails to the ties. The original version of this machine required a multiple person crew, with labor intensive processes, subjecting the workers to often dangerous and back breaking conditions. The machine operator had limited control and productivity was limited due to lack of automated functions.

GSĀ Global Resources (GSGR) overcame these challenges by integrating a total machine control system that synchronizes the movements of the tie plate inserter. Significant mechanical wear is eliminated with smooth, electro-proportional control. Sensors are used to monitor and validate automated function performance. The design increases reliability of the machine and greatly improved machine cycle time for superior efficiency. This results in a safe operating environment, and requires only one operator instead of four.
