Radial-Piston motors are low-speed high-torque (LSHT) classified, providing high-torque at relatively low shaft speeds.

These motors can produce high torques at low speeds, down to half a revolution per minute.  Radial piston motors are generally fixed displacement. However, some versions will allow for variable displacement which is accomplished by limiting the number of pistons that can receive hydraulic fluid.

Applications include excavator draglines, cranes, winches, and ground drilling equipment.
