Determining the Need for a Heat Exchanger.

Mobile equipment sometimes has an immersion heater to warm the reservoir oil before startup during cold weather operation. Placing the heater close to the pump inlet can prevent pump cavitation. This extends the service line of the pump.

There are a number of basic factors to consider when determining the need for adding a heat exchanger to an existing system. Care needs to happen to carefully consider these factors along with any other possible solution(s). Installing an unnecessary unit or one that is too large adds to equipment costs and may produce unwanted results.

  • Operating temperature of the reservoir oil
  • Sequence, cycle time, and the load of the system
  • Maintenance history
