Rubber Tire Tree Harvesting Machine
This rubber tire tree harvesting machine is used in some of the worst climates and harshest conditions to quickly and efficiently cut timber to a predetermined length. To be profitable, this machine must operate with minimal downtime while enduring very high cycle rates for all functions. The previous design was a hydraulic pilot controlled machine, with no monitoring and limited, non-adjustable ramping. This lack of ramping resulted in excessive stress to the machine when inexperienced operators exceeded safe operating limits. The inability to monitor and control the engine resulted in excessive horsepower droop and could cause engine stall, which is an unsafe condition for the operator and machine.
GS Global Resources (GSGR) provides a total machine control system that resolves these issues. Engine horsepower is now monitored via J1939 CAN communication and controlled with the master controller, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and ensuring a safe operating condition. In addition, the hydrostatic transmission and two speed gearbox are matched to the engine torque curve for optimal performance and maximum speed. All machine functions are now proportional, resulting in a significant reduction in boom stress. The integration of the joysticks, CAN switch panels, electronic foot pedals, other input devices, along with a large color display provides a configurable machine interface for the operator. This allows the machine owner to match the machine performance parameters to the experience level of the operator. All electrical power distribution is handled by a unique CAN load distribution panel. This panel monitors all current loads to provide short circuit protection and function shut-down when unsafe current levels are experienced. GSGR also offers the cut-to-length processing head computer, which can be operated independent of, or integrated into the machine control system. With the monitoring and diagnostic capabilities of this new control solution, machine owners experience a substantial increase in machine up time, productivity and greater return on investment.
